Service was friendly, prompt, and professional. We enjoyed our drinks, meal, and dessert. We got there at 5pm and were the first ones for dinner. Everyone must eat later. The fisherman's salad had the option of salmon or basa. The steak was cooked perfectly medium rare. Cocktails for $12?!? Get outta here, so cheap and liquored!

A local recommended Emberz to us while we were guests at the Chicken Ranch Resort and Casino--newly built, very few of their restaurants are open. She said it was an easy 10 minute drive up Highway 49. She loved the vibe there and said the food was great! So, it wasn't a tough choice for my husband and I! It could have been a Gold Country saloon or hotel (brothel?) at one time, updated with wine barrel high tables and booths. Service was outstanding and attentive. Water, menus with no delay, drink service soon after and our dinners followed with just enough relaxing time. Husband ordered the steak sandwich and side salad (very generous portion!) and I ordered the shrimp scampi and basa over linguine--no problem with the substitution from wild rice. Plenty of garlic and local veggies. Priced very reasonably, located in the heart of Sonora (fun to look at the shops), and a must if you are looking for the best of Sonora dining!

Known for their wood-fired offerings, Emberz is located on Washington St. in downtown Sonora, the main drag consisting of bars, eateries, & one-of-a-kind shops. As we tend to do at restaurants we've never before visited, we ordered way too much: -- stuffed jalapeños ($14.50): the perfect starter, if only they weren't so spicy! Neither the cream cheese filling nor cucumber-based sauce could cool down our mouths. Loved the crispy, salty prosciutto wrapping. Get these! -- sizzling garlic shrimp ($15.95): I knew these weren't cooked to my liking the minute they hit the table. Pale instead of nicely browned, the shrimp's taste & texture were predictably boring. The only disappointing item. -- the god "yes" salad ($13.75): a tasty herb dressing coated mixed greens, candied walnuts, apple slices, gorgonzola, & heirloom tomato. -- tomahawk steak (MP ~$85 for a 22 oz. bone-in ribeye): he enjoyed the flavor & seasoning, however the outer edges tasted of whatever was used to ignite the wood in the oven. The bite of rib cap I had was fantastic. -- desserts: bread pudding which could've fed a village, & a creamy, delicious slice of luxardo cherry cheesecake. -- a fistful of basil made his strawberry basil mojito extra fragrant. Accompanying the bill is a novel in which you're free to inscribe a message; Emberz is a casual spot with inviting, prompt service & a menu that focuses on local ingredients, I'd say they deserve a few words of praise.
